  • Z-VAD-FMK is a caspase inhibitor and antiapoptotic agent.
  • The apoptotic responses of human melanocytes to UV radiation, 4-tert-butylphenol, and cisplatin were associated with BH3 interacting domain cleavage, caspase activation, mitochondrial depolarization and release of cytochrome c, Smac/DIABLO, and apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF), but not endonuclease G. Z-VAD-FMK was not able to block these apoptotic responses and AIF release, indicating that the apoptotic responses were caspase-independent. Liu, T., et al.
