Storage: Store at or below -20 ºC. Solubility: Soluble in DMSO at 200 mg/mL; soluble in ethanol at 200 mg/mL; very poorly soluble in water; maximum solubility in plain water is estimated to be about 20-50 µM; buffers, serum, or other additives may increase or decrease the aqueous solubility. Disposal: A.
- Urinary metabolite of daidzein, produced by humans and horses. Heinonen, S., et al. "Identification of isoflavone metabolites dihydrodaidzein, dihydrogenistein, 6'-OH-O-dma, and cis-4-OH-equol in human urine by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry using authentic reference compounds." Anal. Biochem. 274: 211-219 (1999).
- This product is a racemic mixture of the R- and S-enantiomers. However, the naturally-occurring form of equol from horse urine consists of a single stereoisomer, namely the S-isomer. While the chemical properties of the S-isomer are essentially identical to those of the racemic mixture (except for rotation of plane polarized light, melting point, and so on), the biological properties of the naturally-occurring S-isomer are quite likely to be somewhat different from those of the racemic mixture.
- The CAS number of our racemic Equol product is 94105-90-5, as noted near the top of this page. The CAS number of the naturally-occurring S-isomer is 531-95-3.
- Another CAS number previously assigned to (R,S)-Equol, namely 66036-38-2, has been deleted by CAS and is no longer in use.
- Sold for laboratory or manufacturing purposes only; not for human, medical, veterinary, food, or household use.
