Forskolin is a naturally occurring diterpene from the Indian plant, Coleus forskohlii, that works as an activator of adenylate cyclase resulting in an increase in the intracellular concentration of cAMP. Forskolin acts as a smooth muscle relaxant and vasodilator in a concentration-dependent manner that affects both cytoplasmic calcium levels and contractile element calcium sensitivity.
