Isoflavone derivative found in soy-based food products. Wang, H. and Murphy, P.A. "Isoflavone content in commercial soybean foods." J. Agric. Food Chem. 42: 1666-1673 (1994).
Inhibits ethanol intake of Syrian golden hamsters and rats, and inhibits human mitochondrial alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) but not hamster cytosolic ADH; further evidence suggests that the mechanism for reducing alcohol consumption is different from ADH inhibition typical of antabuse-type drugs. Keung, W.M., Klyosov, A.A., and Vallee, B.L. "Daidzin inhibits mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase and suppresses ethanol intake of Syrian golden hamsters." Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 94: 1675-1679 (1997).
